Non-distributive positive logic as a fragment of first-order logic over semilattices

چکیده

Abstract We characterize non-distributive positive logic as the fragment of a single-sorted first-order language that is preserved by new notion simulation called meet-simulation. Meet-simulations distinguish themselves from simulations because they relate pairs states one model to single another. En route this result, we use more traditional and prove Hennessy–Milner-style theorem for it, using an analogue modal saturation meet-compactness.

An Event-Based Fragment of First-Order Logic over Intervals

We consider a new fragment of first-order logic with two variables. This logic is defined over interval structures. It constitutes unary predicates, a binary predicate and a function symbol. Considering such a fragment of first-order logic is motivated by defining a general framework for event-based interval temporal logics. In this paper, we present a sound, complete and terminating decision p...

Hybrid Logic Is the Bounded Fragment of First Order Logic

Hybrid languages are extended modal languages which can refer to (or even quantify over) worlds. The use of strong hybrid languages dates back to at least Pri67], but recent work (for example BS98, BT99]) has focussed on a more constrained system called H(#; @). The purpose of the present paper is to show in detail that H(#; @) is a modally natural system. We study its expressivity, and provide...

One-dimensional Fragment of First-order Logic

We introduce a novel decidable fragment of first-order logic. The fragment is one-dimensional in the sense that quantification is limited to applications of blocks of existential (universal) quantifiers such that at most one variable remains free in the quantified formula. The fragment is closed under Boolean operations, but additional restrictions (called uniformity conditions) apply to combin...

A A PSPACE-Complete First Order Fragment of Computability Logic

Computability Logic (CoL), introduced by Japaridze in [2003; 2009a], is a research program for developing logic as a formal theory of interactive computability. Formulas in it are understood as (interactive) computational problems and logical operators represent operations on such entities. The goal of this program is to define a systematic way to answer the question “what can be computed?” wit...
